Jennifer Huxta is a photographer and field poet. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, for four years, she completed projects focusing on issues of climate change, women’s health and, especially, the role of art in reeducating youth who have experienced trauma via violent conflict or daily poverty. When Sarah and Jane fled South Sudan, they joined the thousands of unaccompanied minors living in Uganda’s refugee camps. Organizations help kids like them feel safe by providing money, therapy and even foster families, but their loss is harder to escape.
