Sarmad is a founding member of the activist-run Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently media outlet. He left RBSS in early 2017 and joined Sound and Picture – another activist-run media outlet that covers the areas of Raqqa and Deir Ezzor.

Sarmad, a founding member of Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently, initially sought safety from the Assad regime in Raqqa. Ultimately, he ended up risking his life to expose atrocities carried out by the so-called Islamic State in their de facto capital.
