Craig Wilson is a water attorney who served as the first Delta Watermaster from 2010 to 2014; he also served as the State Water Resources Control Board’s chief counsel from 2000 until 2005.

A smart leader would see there are many solutions to California’s water challenges. A benevolent leader would embrace them all, in moderation. A wise leader would also make the most of long-standing legal tools to create an environment that is fair to all.
Managing scarcity based on water rights is not working. Instead, we should ensure all water use is ‘reasonable’ during drought.
