Video: Breaking Barriers to Stand Up for Family Planning

In the next video in our series “Choice and Change,” we meet Indigenous Guatemalan Lucy Cutzan, who defied cultural norms to go on birth control. Now she helps other women, tackling myths and raising awareness about contraception.

After having two children, Lucy Cutzan, a 24-year-old Indigenous Guatemalan, defied her husband and started using birth control. In a country with one of the highest fertility rates in Latin America, Lucy is a rare example of a woman taking her reproductive rights into her own hands. Passionate about women’s right to family planning, Lucy became a health worker who now provides contraceptives to 250 women every month. Her story highlights the barriers and solutions to contraceptive use in rural Guatemala.
